Do not use a mobile phone , either hands free, texting or hand held whilst driving. This increases your risk of a crash by up to four times! There are penalties in place for those caught texting or talking on their phones whilst in the vehicle with it running and all that aside, the disturbance it causes to your driving and the increased risk of a car accident are just not worth the risk.
Drinking and Driving- the big one! Whilst on your P plates, you are not permitted to have any alcohol in your blood system no matter what. Drink driving at any time increases your chance of having an accident, but did you know that drinking and driving a car with a blood alcohol reading of 0.15 increases your chance 25 times more likely to crash?
Fatigue is the worst killer on our roads to date. Driving tired and feeling sleepy will not get you home safely. Preparing for the trip- whether it be a short one or a long one is the best way and being sure you have had adequate sleep the night before your long trip, or you have someone to share this journey with is the best way to make sure you arrive at your destination on time and safely.
In today’s day and age where not only we are working longer hours, we are also studying longer hours as young people, it’s best to take a 15 minute power nap during your trip, either on the roadside, with your vehicle securely locked or at one of the many driver reviver stops along the way. Getting to your destination is the best arrival anyone could ask for.
And lastly, driving a safe car is the best way to protect you and your friends from the unfortunate event of a crash. Not all cars are deemed safe, so upon purchase of your vehicle, it is good to ask many questions about safety and performance, more so than color and style.
A safe car could save the life of yourself and your mates in the event of a crash.
